SEASONAL SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR UPKEEP OF ANIMALS

 

Summer Arrangements in the Captive Wild Animals and Birds at Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, Telangana State

 

Summer arrangements and precautionary measures to avoid summer stroke and summer stress to the Zoo Wild Animals, Birds and Reptiles as follows in the interest of wild animal’s health care and protection from summer season.

  1. Arranged sprinklers and small rain guns in all enclosures.
  2. Arranged foggers in the Reptile House, Macaws and all Pheasantry and Aviary area in the Zoo Park.
  3. Arranged all Bird Cages covered with Thunga.
  4. Provided shade net to the Duck Pond, Stork Pond area.
  5. Arranged Coolers in Chimpanzee, all monkey area and Carnivore enclosures.
  6. Arranged Air Condition, Exhaust Fans in the Nocturnal Animal House.
  7. Shady Shelters were provided to all Herbivore enclosures.
  8. Provided Summer Fruits like Water Milan, Musk Milan and Citrus Variety Fruits was provided to all Apes, Monkeys, Primates, Birds and Bears.
  9. Provided ample of protected water to all animal houses time to time to avoid De-hydration.
  10. Provided Glucon–D, Electral Powder, Vitamin–C supplements, B-Complex supplements and Thermo Care Liquid in the water to avoid summer stress.  
  11. Kashkash thattis provided to all the Animal House enclosures to avoid direct sunlight exposure on the animals.
  12. Atleast 3 to 4 times watering was done on the Kashkash thattis and thunga grass to avoid summer heat.
  13. Thunga grass provided on the top of all animal houses to avoid summer stress.
  14. All Animal Keepers, Head Animal Keepers, Park Supervisors taken preventive steps time to time to avoid summer stress to the wild animals, Birds and Reptiles etc.

 

 
The preventive measures against seasonal diseases during rainy season in the wild animals and birds at Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, Telangana are as follows.
  1. Sprinkling of lime and bleaching 3:1 ratio in all kraals and in and around the kraals for five days.
  2. Cleaning of all animal night houses with Aciphor liquid or Khursolin liquid 2% solution.
  3. Arranged phenyl foot baths at Main Gate, Service gate and all animal house entries.
  4. Removal of left-over feed, faecal material and grasses daily basis to avoid contamination.
  5. White wash of all-night houses with Kalika Chunna (Natural Lime) once in 3 months.
  6. Bleaching of all wet moats once in 15 days. It is suggested to bleach the moat water with Aqua Liquid @ 1ml for 1Ltr water for sanitation of moat water in the interest of wild animals’ health care.  
  7. Draining of water from wet moats and de-silting of all wet moats and fill with fresh water to avoid water contamination.
  8. White wash to all water troughs with slating lime atleast once in a month to avoid fungal contamination in the drinking water sources.
  9. Supplying of Anti-bacterial powder (Bactrisol and Cosumix) to all Herbivores for 5 to 7 days to prevent infections before monsoon season  
  10. Supplying of Antibacterial powder (Oxytetracyclin) to all Birds in the water for 5 to 7 days to prevent infections before monsoon season.  
  11. Vaccination against Trypanosomiasis (Surra) to all Carnivores in the Zoo as preventive measures.  
  12. De-worming of all Herbivores in the Zoo against Parasitic infection..

 

 

Winter Arrangements in the Captive Wild Animals and Birds at Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, Telangana State.

  1. Arranged heaters in all night houses of Carnivore and Primates. 
  2. Common Langur enclosures covered with green net to avoid winter waves.
  3. Protect all the Carnivore night houses covered with gunny bags to avoid winter waves to protect from pneumonia disease.
  4. All Bird night houses covered with 75% roof level covered with green net or gunny roll to protect from winter waves.
  5. All Small Cat enclosures arranged heaters in night houses and covered with gunny roll to protect from winter waves.
  6. All bird night houses provided with nest boxes insulated material in it particularly in the Macaws and Cockatoos area.
  7. Night Houses of Small Monkeys like Squirrel Monkey and Golden Handed Tamarin Monkey provided with small wooden boxes with dry paddy straw and partially covered with gunny roll to avoid winter breezes in the night to provide heat.
  8. Night houses of Reptile House provided with dry leaves, bulbs, small Pots and Dense to protect themselves from winds.
  9. Animal house of Mouse Deer Breeding Centre covered with green net outside and provided dry paddy straw, wooden hides in each animal night house to protect from winter waves.
  10. Night Houses of Lion Safari Park, Tiger Safar Park provided with heaters.
  11. Air conditions are stopped in Nocturnal Animal House for 3 months (November, 2020 to Mid February, 2021).
  12. All night houses of Carnivores provided with wooden planks to avoid cramps in the foot region.
  13. Neem leaves to be burnt in Elephant Moats, Giraffe night houses to avoid mosquitos and winter breezes.
  14. Partial closure of roof level with gunny roll covered to avoid winter breezes in Vulture enclosure and quarantine ward.
  15. Provided Gampas, Matkas in New Aviary to protect themselves from winter breezes and as insulating material for egg laying and nesting.
