RESEARCH & COLLABORATION

         Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad is the first zoo in the country to come forward to work with the Laboratory for Conservation of Endangered Species (LaCONES), a collaborative research program of Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Dept of Biotechnology (DBT), Central Zoo Authority of India (Central Zoo Authority), Nehru Zoological Park (NZP), and Government of Telangana is aimed at the conservation of endangered animals through the use of biotechnological intervention.

           Reproductive Technologies by recovery and cryopreservation of gametes and embryos. For cell line studies samples are collected from dead animals for future studies.

         Specific diet charts were prepared for the inmates in the Zoo after many experiments and Research. Species-specific diets were tried and succeeded in formulating alternative diet schedules for Primates, Ratites, Raptors, Small herbivores, Carnivores etc.,

        Several Research scholars are associated with this Zoo in studying the breeding behavior, and biology. With the help of scat & urine samples, research is done on stress conditions of the wild animals, heat symptoms, and pregnancy diagnosis. The services of CCMB are being utilized for this purpose.

 

         The CCMB is studying the breeding habits of Vultures.  They are collecting various specimens/samples for DNA fingerprinting. They have taken up artificial insemination of Spotted deer successfully and are planning similar work with Black Buck.
